The Alphens Kozakkenkoor consists of about 35 members. The voices are divided between basses, baritones and first and second tenors. The repertoire consists of Byzantine-liturgical music and Cossack songs.
The choir was founded on April 25, 2007 and is therefore still relatively young. The members come from Alphen aan den Rijn and the surrounding area, such as Leiderdorp, Woubrugge, Roelofarendsveen, Ter Aar, Aalsmeer, Wilnis, Nieuwkoop, Woerden, Moordrecht, Wassenaar, Leimuiden, Nieuw-Vennep and Zoetermeer.
They sing in Russian. The lyrics are fictionalized, because the Cyrillic script gives some problems for most members .... For the correct pronunciation of the text it is an advantage that conductor Arkadi Gankin is Belarusian by birth.
The choir has already performed tens of performances in theater, churches, care homes, etc. Monasteries and castles have also been performed five times in Germany.
The weekly rehearsals are on Wednesday evening from 19.45 to 22.15 in the Maranathakerk, Jongkindt Coninckstraat 2 in Alphen aan den Rijn. The choir can use amplification from first tenors. Interested parties can contact one of the board members for an introductory rehearsal.
